President William Ruto nominated Senior Counsel Dorcas Agik Oduor for the position of attorney general.Oduor has served as deputy director of Public prosecution and Head of the economic,international and emerging crime departments.If her nomination I'd approved,she will the government's legal principal advisor,entrusted with the representation of national government in court and other legal proceedings.
Currently serving as the Secretary of Public Prosecutions at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Oduor holds a Master of Arts in International Conflict Management, a Bachelor of Laws degree, both from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of law.With over 30 years of experience in the public sector,Oduor is seasoned to advocate for the High Court of Kenya.
Her career includes roles such as deputy Director of Public Prosecutions at ODPP and head of the Economic, International, and Emerging Crimes Departments. She has also served as Deputy Chief State Counsel and State Counsel at the Office of the Attorney General. President William Ruto noted that Oduor has demonstrated unimpeachable integrity, impressive professional competence, and steadfast commitment to the rule of law.
As the government's principal legal advisor, she will represent the national government in court and other legal proceedings. In her role as Cabinet secretary for the department of justice, she will be responsible for advancing human rights, implementing the Constitution, ensuring access to justice through the promotion of legal aid, and overseeing good governance, anti-corruption strategies, ethics, integrity, legal education, and law reform.
Oduor will provide policy guidance, coordination, and oversight for various legal sector institutions, supporting the strengthening of these entities across a broad mandate. She will also review and manage legal matters related to the Public Trustee and the administration of estates and trusts. Additionally, she will negotiate, draft, and review local and international treaties, agreements, and instruments involving the government and its institutions. As attorney-general, Oduor will advocate for the rule of law and uphold the public interest.
